How to measure wind
As we all know that the wind is the type of air that move with some force or power. Its mean it has some velocity of the movement form one place to another. So different types of measuring technologies or the devices are used to measure different characters of the wind such as its speed, its pressure and many more, these devices or the technologies are referred to as the wind measurements. It is important to measure the important characteristics of the wind because it really produce the better way to create different types power generation devices from wind.
Wind Measuring Methods:
There are different types of technologies or devices that are used for measuring the wind power. Different technologies are used for different character of the wind such as speed is measured with the help of different devices as compared to pressure. The important measurement tools of the wind power are as follows
An important device in the field of the measurement of the wind power that calculates or measures the speed or velocity of the wind is called as the anemometer. There are different types of anemometers are used for the measurements of the wind speed but the common type of anemometer that has been used in the every types of world either developing or under developed is known as the cup shaped anemometer. In this three or the four cups are arranged in such a way that they can move one behind the other and they move in the rotational form. By counting the number of turns we can easily calculate the velocity of the wind power.
Velocity Wind Meter:
It is also the device that used for the same purpose of the detection and measuring the speed of the wind energy but the modification in this device is that it also able to record the readings and save them for the future, this type of device is called as wind meter. Wind meters have ability to determine the direction of the wind with the same method up to 359 degrees. Basically it is the advanced form of the cup anemometer.
Pressure Wind Meter:
It is a type of wind meter that is required to measure the pressure acting on the wind is referred to as the pressure wind meter. A typical pressure wind meter that is used nowadays is the types of tube pressure wind meter. In the old times plate pressure wind meters were used for the detection. In tube pressure wind meters liquid is used for the determination of the pressure of the wind.
Ultrasonic Wind Sensors :
For the determination and the calculations of the speed and the direction of the wind energy with more accuracy ultrasonic wind sensors are used. Ultra sonic wind sensors have the accurate measuring ability of the wind speed at the higher level up to 0 to 60 m/sec. they have high reliability. They are independent from corrosion or the decaying processes of the environment because its outer covering is composed of the poly carbonate. And one of the major advantages of ultrasonic wind sensors is that we need no efforts for their operation because it has no movable parts or obstacles.
Another important measuring device that is used to monitor the important activities of the wind energy such direction, velocity, intensity of turbulence is called as the wind profilers. Basically the device also works on the same phenomenon of the determination of the wind speed and direction. The major advantage of the wind profiler is to calculate the atmospheric pressure of the wind energy that really helpful for the nuclear plants. It also helps the pilots to detect the air pockets while flying.
