What Is Environmental Monitoring?

The geographical area that comprises on the different components such as air, water, soil, different types of animals or plants is referred to as the environment. The studies which are used to check the balance of these components and also monitor the working and the recourses of these components is called as environmental monitoring. it also deals with those activities of natural resources that play an important role in developing the new products for the benefit of the mankind. Basically this system is designed for monitoring the qualities of the resources of the environment not the quantity. When environmental monitoring monitors all the resources, it concludes the results on the basis of the reason and different type of justifications.

How Environmental Monitoring Works?
As we know that environmental monitoring based on the process of the balancing the different components take part in making the environment. Environmental monitoring works on different types of techniques of the monitoring. Some important techniques that take part in the working of the environmental monitoring are as follows

  1. Biological monitoring
  2. Air monitoring
  3. Water monitoring

Biological Monitoring:
The first technique that is used to monitor the environment is the biological method. Biological monitoring consists of two types of monitoring i.e. monitoring of the aquatic areas and also monitor the terrestrial species. Biological monitoring is basically bused to monitor the different types of pollutants, that pollute the environment badly and it is also used to suggest different types of solutions that reduce the effect of contamination. Another term that is used in the field of biological monitoring is microbiological monitoring that deals with the strategies of the microorganisms. It also reduces the use of the different types of energy consumption in the field of environment.

Air Monitoring:
Another form of the monitoring that is required to monitor the environment is the monitoring of the environment. It is that type of technique that is used to check the quality of the air either it is good for the humans or not and also suggest some ways to make the air beneficial for the environment. Basically this technique is required to monitor different types of dusty materials from the sample of the air and after long discussions and experimental facts suggest the solution of recovery. For the purpose of the air monitoring different parameters are used common parameter used is called as meteorological parameters.

Water Monitoring:
An important method which is also required in the monitoring of the environment is the process to monitor the water resources. Basically water monitoring is the technique that is the combination of the two processes i.e. natural and the other chemical processes. Different types of instruments are used to monitor the water resources such as hydrostatic head. These instruments are able to measure the surface and the ground level of the water. First of all sampling is done on the basis of the collection of water from different areas or from different resources. After collection do the analysis to check the chemical and the real time components of the water. Some times water monitoring indicates the ways to protect the water and enhance the water quality.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Environmental Monitoring:
As environmental monitoring is the useful process for the mankind so it has many advantages but it has two major advantages such as provide the opportunity to monitor the natural resources and also finding the ways to do different developments in the future. Where environmental monitoring has many advantages, at the same time it has some disadvantages such as it is very costly process and much type of data of yield is also required for such processes.
